When sixteen-year-old Tobias Lund found his grandmother about to throw 1. a perfectly good radio because one button had broken, he offered to fix it. It took him most 2. the afternoon, but he managed it, and the experience gave him an idea. A few months later, he set up a 'repair café' in his school hall, 3. people from the neighbourhood could bring broken items and learn to mend them. The first event attracted only a handful of visitors, most of 4. were friends of his parents. Word soon spread, however, and the café now runs on the first Saturday of every month. Volunteers fix all kinds of things, from toasters to bicycles, and nobody is charged 5. the service. 'The point isn't just to save money,' Tobias explains. 'It's about getting people to think twice before they replace something. A lot of things end up in rubbish dumps not because they can't be repaired, 6. because nobody knows how.' His teachers say the project has taught him as much 7. any lesson. Tobias himself is hoping to study engineering at university, and he has no intention 8. giving up the café in the meantime.
